General Purpose
The Chief Pilot is responsible for the standards of the operations department ensuring that each flight is conducted with the highest degree of safety and that flight crew members maintain a professional appearance and etiquette which reflects the high standards of the company.
He or she will promote excellence, team work and accountability and make sure that each flight is conducted in accordance with company standards. The Chief Pilot will be detailed oriented and have excellent team building and communications skills.
Essential Functions
Strategic
- Works with Sales/Flight Control and Maintenance to ensure safe and efficient use of company resources to maximize revenue potential
- Assisting with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts while giving weekly and monthly updates on performance against
- Identifies projects and programs for improvement and/or cost savings along with operational efficiencies
- Identifies and executes on projects and programs to continually improve service levels
Leadership
- Conducts performance reviews for flight crews and applicable operations personnel on an established schedule
- Foster a positive safety culture and an environment that encourages pilot team members to perform at their best.
- Develop, coach, mentor subordinates.
- Coordinates regular crew and base meetings discussing and reviewing expected operations, services and individual behaviors – lead by the role’s own example
- Defines and leads services effort to ensure customer expectations are exceede
Management
- Establishes the business need and obtains funding approval for additional resources as required. Oversees the hiring process including candidate selection, interviewing and placement. Will ensure that the on boarding and qualification process is completed prior to releasing for service.
- Ensures regulatory compliance is demonstrated in all flight crew qualification, flight and duty log, and department records
- Assigns and manages Lead Pilots for the various managed aircraft
- Maintains availability for all pilots and flight control for safety and process management including assistance with regulatory interpretation and application
Operational
- Manages a Standard Evaluation program to ensure company and owner expectations are aligned with performance
- Ensures regulatory compliance is demonstrated in all flight crew qualification, flight and duty log, and department records
- Creates and deploys the comprehensive fixes as required by the safety and hazard reporting system for the operations department
- Works with flight crews and operational planning to mitigate risk identified by the Risk Analysis and Assessment Tools.
- Oversees the development and currency of the aircraft company Standard Operating Procedures and Weight and Balance programs.
- Audits department records on a regular basis to ensure continuing compliance
- Participating in the company’s safety management system to include assisting in the development of corrective actions to identified safety issues and audit findings, conveying safety lessons and information, and hold subordinates accountable for adherence to company safety policies.
- Serve as primary Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator (AOSC).
- Ensures flight crews maintain a professional appearance and etiquette which reflects the high standards of the company.
- Ensures aircraft publications are current and on board.
- Available afterhours on periodic on-call basis to address operational issues
Administrative
- Works with the Director of Operations when external audits are being conducted
- Oversees and manages the navigational chart subscriptions for all aircraft.
- Reviewing the current budget implementation and evaluating department expenditures incurred by subordinates
- Manage crewmember PTO requests.
- Preparing and distributing periodic reports, as required/requested.

- Actively participates in management meetings providing suggested improvements to the operations, the business models, and the service programs
- Participates with Flight Control through daily communications with the schedule and crew activities – provides help with solutions in those daily interactions
- Encourages over and above performance through their own actions within the operation, flying the line and participating across departments by defining new projects and executing on defined deadlines
- Asks questions and understands the daily operational environment to be able to provide immediate assistance and availability when called on
- Is curious about ways to improve the business organization while focused on the operations of the Certificate and builds projects and measurements as a result
Job Qualifications
• Strong Managerial Skills
• Indepth Knowledge of Part 135 regulations and operations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Problem solver
Education or Formal Training
• ATP pilot rating
• Turbojet type rating
• College degree or equivalent industry experience.
Experience
• 2+yrs Flight department management experience
• International flying experience, preferably to Europe or in the Pacific region
• Minimum 5000 hrs flight time
• 1500 Turbine
• 500 Turbojet
